Why does the silicone case get dirty

In addition to obvious reasons such as contact with dirty hands and surfaces, the smartphone case suffers from other factors.

So, the accessory may lose its original appearance due to overheating. Under the influence of high temperature, the silicone structure becomes more porous, which allows dirt to penetrate deeper into the material. This happens if the phone often lies in direct sunlight, near heating devices, or if the battery of the gadget overheats.

The silicone case also becomes unattractive due to natural wear. And the material can also stain when it comes into contact with fabrics — for example, if you carry the device in your jeans pocket.

How and how to wash the silicone phone case

If you find stains on an accessory, try to start cleaning as soon as possible. The deeper the dirt penetrates into the silicone, the more difficult it will be to get rid of it. Even if there are no obvious dirt on the case, try to wash it every 1-2 weeks. This way the product will last longer.

If the chosen method did not help to clean the case the first time, repeat the procedure or use another option.

Using wet wipes

You can wipe off fresh stains with ordinary wet wipes. They are also suitable for preventive cleaning: at least once a week, thoroughly wipe the case inside and out, paying special attention to holes, button protrusions and other small details.

A more advanced option is to use special napkins for office equipment. As a rule, they include active detergents that effectively wash away grease and complex impurities.

Using soap

Both regular and 72% household will do.

Moisten the surface of the silicone case with water and rub the contaminated areas with soap. Clean the stains with a soft sponge, microfiber cloth or toothbrush, and then rinse the accessory under running water and wipe dry.

Using lemon juice or acid

The product will help to get rid of complex impurities, yellowness and darkened areas.

Squeeze the lemon juice into a separate bowl or dissolve 2 teaspoons of citric acid in 250 ml of water. Use a cotton pad to apply any of the liquids to the contaminated surfaces of the case and leave to act for 30 minutes.

Then rub the stains with a dry soft sponge or microfiber cloth. Rinse off the remaining product with a damp cloth.

Using baking soda

This method will help to restore the former appearance of transparent silicone cases, which eventually acquire a brownish hue.

In a separate container, pour a little baking soda and add warm water so that you get a thick gruel. Apply the mixture to the surface of the case and clean the problem areas with a toothbrush. After that, wash the accessory under running water and wipe it dry.

Using medical alcohol or acetone-free nail polish remover

They are able to cope even with traces of a pen or a marker. However, the funds should be used with caution to clean the covers with drawings, since they can also be washed off. In this case, apply the composition pointwise so as not to get on the print. And do not use acetone nail polish remover to avoid ruining the case.

Moisten a cotton pad or a stick with any of the selected liquids and carefully treat the stains. Change the cotton wool to a new one as it gets dirty. After the procedure, wash the case with soap under running water and wipe it dry.

Using an eraser or a melamine sponge

Use these materials for surface contamination. For stains that have managed to penetrate deep into the silicone structure, the method is likely to be useless.

When working with a melamine sponge, wear gloves so as not to injure the skin. And this material is more abrasive than an eraser, and can easily wash away prints, so do not use it for covers with drawings.

If you clean the case in light shades, choose a white stationery eraser. Colored products can leave streaks on the silicone.

Take the prepared eraser or cut off a small piece of melamine sponge. Carefully walk the product over the stains. After you manage to erase the dirt, shake off the particles of the eraser from the cover or wipe it with a damp cloth.
