Rolling Stone named the 150 Best Science Fiction Films of All Time

Rolling Stone magazine has presented a list of the 150 best science fiction films of all time. Journalists deliberately abandoned the traditional "top 100" format in order to add even pop paintings to the rating, which do not receive due attention.

But superhero films were not included, because they do not meet the criteria of science fiction. An exception was made only for the first part of Guardians of the Galaxy (117th place).

So, the first place was taken by the legendary film "2001: A Space Odyssey" by Stanley Kubrick. Andrei Tarkovsky's "Stalker" was on the second line. And this is not the only work of the Soviet director – his "Solaris" is located at number 20. The top three were closed by the picture "Close contacts of the third degree" by Steven Spielberg.

The top 20 of the rating looks like this:

The top 150 also included such iconic paintings as "Men in Black" (143), "Idiocracy" (141), the original "Dune" (140), "Independence Day" (139), "The Fifth Element" (130), "Barbarella" (109), "Park Jurassic Period" (106), "Donnie Darko" (76), "Remember Everything" (73), "Robocop" (52), "Clockwork Orange" (42) and "Terminator" (40).

Of the modern films, one can single out "The 9th district" (133), "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" (93), "Interstellar" (64), "Avatar" (63), "The Martian" (50), "Gravity" (44), "The Beginning" (38) and "Mad Max: Fury Road" (30).

The most recent in the ranking were "No" by Jordan Peele (78), "Dune" by Denis Villeneuve (53) and "Everything is everywhere and at once" (49).

There are also several animated films on the list: "Paprika" (84), "Ghost in the Shell" (72), "WALL-I" (39) and "Akira" (32).
