Apple has released an urgent security update for iPhone and iPad

Shortly after the release of the interim iOS/ iPadOS 16.4.1 update, users received another update with the same number, but a postscript (a) at the end. This is a lightweight little patch that fixes detected security bugs.

The update is called "Rapid iOS Response to Threats" (Rapid Security Response). The name may be familiar to users of beta versions of Apple firmware, but ordinary users with stable iOS see it for the first time.

Such updates are usually installed in a couple of minutes and sometimes do not even require a reboot of the device after execution (though not in this case). They focus on quickly closing known vulnerabilities and do not add new features.

Also, a switch for a new type of updates has appeared in the auto-update settings. Considering that in cases of RSR it is always about security, this item should be left on.

It is noted that such notifications can only be installed on top of the newest version of iOS / iPadOS: that is, the conditional iOS 16.5.1 (a) on iOS 16.5 will not immediately get up, since there is still a standard update 16.5.1 between them.
