Unlike a similar feature in iOS, the Android solution will rely on a wired connection: the smartphone will have to be connected to a computer via USB.
Judging by what is in the code of the Android 14 test build, the smartphone will be able to replace the webcam in any application that supports video transmission via USB. In other words, the function will be compatible with most video calling services. At the same time, you will not need to install additional applications or drivers on the computer: everything will work natively.
At the same time, you will still have to install a dedicated application on your smartphone, it will be responsible for transferring data from the camera to the computer. So far, even Pixel smartphones have not received it, but in the future, smartphones from other manufacturers will receive DeviceAsWebcam support, provided that their core tinctures allow them to work as a USB camera.
It is not yet known whether DeviceAsWebcam will appear on the release of the stable version of Android 14, or it will be added in one of the interim updates.
