Microsoft is preparing to say goodbye to Windows 8.1

Microsoft is preparing to send notifications to Windows 8.1 users that OS support will cease on January 10, 2023. Such alerts will start arriving on devices as early as next month.

The notifications will be similar to those Microsoft has used in the past to remind Windows 7 users of support end dates.

Windows 8.1 was largely a work on the perception errors made in Windows 8. The latter, introduced in 2012, was focused on touch screens and lost the traditional desktop with the Start button, which few people liked.
• In 2013, the "Start" was returned to Windows 8.1, and Microsoft later admitted that it had made a mistake with the change of rails. In 2015, Windows 10 was released, with which the company tried to turn over the page of unsuccessful experiments.
• Now Windows 8.1 users can upgrade to Windows 10, which will be supported until October 14, 2025.

In Russia, there are some problems with the Microsoft OS update now, but they are easily solved with a VPN.
