Windows Live Suite. Part 3. Windows Live Writer — the Best Blog Client

Along with Windows Live Mail, Live Photo Gallery and Windows Live Messenger, Windows Live Writer is an amazing free blog client, which, although sharpened to work with Live Spaces and corporate blogs on the SharePoint platform, but no less perfectly works with any blog on the WordPress engine and does not only on it. (Let me remind you, Live Writer comes as part of Windows Live Suite).

To connect a blog, simply enter the URL to its main page and enter your username/password. After some sorcery, with the introduction of a trial post, your blog will be connected.

It is worth noting that, no matter how strange it may be for Microsoft, the program generates exclusively "pure" HTML, which is not a shame to look at yourself and show people.

I will list the most excellent basic features:

  • the ability to insert links to your previous posts directly without leaving the dialog;
  • adding categories (even nested ones) directly from Live Writer;
  • change Post Slug;
  • change of authorship, publication date and password to the post;
  • tag support;
  • inserting illustrations and photos from local storage and from the web, resizing, generating tables and applying effects to illustrations;
  • inserting tables;
  • inserting maps (using a service from Microsoft — Virtual Earth);
  • inserting videos — just specify the URL, for example, of a video on YouTube, the program will do the rest itself!;
  • plugin support (the most useful is the plugin for working with Flickr) for a variety of purposes.

Among other things, the program works perfectly with several blog accounts, with Russian, and also supports an excellent "trick" - changing the palette of window design.

In conclusion, I will say that this client seems to me the best blog client of all currently existing, paid and free. Highly recommend it.
