What is smog

In cases where "smog" is not a verb, this word does not carry anything good. Smog is the air filled with dust, smoke, soot, and exhaust gases. Forest fires contribute to atmospheric pollution.

One of the dangerous components of smog is carbon monoxide. It's carbon monoxide, and it's poisonous. Carbon monoxide (CO) prevents Basic Information about Carbon Monoxide (CO) Outdoor Air Pollution / U.S. Environmental Protection Agency oxygen transfer by blood and in high concentrations can lead to death. Dust, toxins, and heavy metal salts also do not make the body healthier.

Smog causes exacerbation of chronic diseases of the respiratory system. Even ordinary—looking dust in a big city is an unsafe phenomenon. You can't figure out its composition without laboratory analysis. Therefore, the layer covering your window sill with the window open may contain all the same toxins, heavy metal salts, and powerful allergens.

According to Air pollution levels rising in many of the world’s poorest cities / World Health Organization WHO, the air in 80% of the world's cities does not meet the standards.

Usually, the respiratory system copes with air purification quite effectively. But in some periods it is better to provide additional protection for the lungs. The reasons for this may be:

  • forest and peat fires;
  • the absence of wind, which causes carbon monoxide, suspended solids and hydrocarbons to accumulate in one place;
  • long absence of precipitation.

The Ministry of Emergency Situations usually warns about smog, follow the SMS newsletter or news.

How to protect the respiratory system from smog and dust

1. Shorten your walks

During the period of smoke, it is better not to go outside unless absolutely necessary. This is especially true of the dawn hours. In the morning, the concentration of smog in the lower atmosphere is higher than the rest of the time.

2. Drink water, not alcohol

Water will help restore the body's salt balance and stop dehydration. Green tea or fruit drinks are also suitable. Alcohol and soda, on the contrary, will remove the liquid.

3. Eat right

It is better to give up heavy fatty foods, their digestion takes away a lot of energy from the body, which it could use to process harmful substances. Choose foods that are easily digested, eat vegetables and fruits. Foods rich in fiber and antioxidants will help remove toxins from the body.

4. Do not smoke

The lungs are not going through the best of times. Resins from cigarettes will give a double load on the body's natural filters. Moreover, you should not smoke indoors, and this advice should be followed not only during the period of smoke.

5. Do not irritate the respiratory system

The use of sprays and aerosols, strong-smelling varnishes and paints, shaking dusty textiles from the mezzanine is better postponed until the air becomes a little cleaner.

6. Get out more often

If you do not live in a special shelter, then the apartment is leaky. Dust and combustion products penetrate into rooms and settle on surfaces. Gorenje Do a wet cleaning at least once a day.

You can hang a damp cloth on the open windows. At the same time, keep in mind that mosquito nets do not protect against smog.

7. Rinse your nose

Gorenje products settle in the nasopharynx, so it is useful to rinse the nose and throat with saline or seawater. Special sprays are sold in pharmacies.

8. Use a mask

During periods of maximum smoke, it is best to use a respirator designed to protect against dust, smoke, smog, and carbon monoxide.

The respiratory organs can also be protected with a damp gauze bandage. It's not very effective, but it's still better than nothing.

If you feel dizzy, weak, or have coughing fits, you should immediately consult a doctor.

9. Refuse physical loads

Exercise makes you breathe more often and deeper, so more harmful substances enter the lungs. Physical loads, especially in the air, should be prohibited during smoke, and bathing in reservoirs is also relevant.

10. Turn off the air conditioner

Not every cooling system is suitable for the smog period. If the air conditioner takes air from the street, a special filter must be installed in it. If it is not available, it is better not to use the device.

11. Humidify the indoor air

Use an air humidifier or at least a spray bottle. Due to this, the dust will settle faster on the surfaces, from where it will be easy to remove with a wet cloth.
