Qi2 wireless charging support will be added to iPhone 13 and 14

In November, it became known that the first accessories with the Qi2 wireless charging standard will be available before the end of the year. This is an analogue of MagSafe, but more versatile: manufacturers do not need to undergo paid certification from Apple, it is enough to pass the checks of the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC).

Initially, it was reported that only the iPhone 15 is ready for the new standard, but this will change soon. In the list of innovations of the iOS 17.2 beta, we noticed the item "Support for Qi2 chargers on iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 models".

This means that with the release of the update, users of these smartphones will be able to use Qi2 charging without MagSafe certification for fast wireless charging with a power of 15 watts.

From the point of view of the design, Qi2 charging is not much different from MagSafe (after all, the standard was created with the participation of Apple and its developments). They use magnets for precise positioning on the back of the smartphone so that charging is optimal and does not interrupt at the slightest movement of the device.

To use the Qi2, you need a magnetic ring on your smartphone, so only the iPhone will be able to support it without additional accessories. But Android smartphone users can use special cases or stickers to add such a ring to the back of their gadget.
