5 harmful habits of people who grew up in poverty

Poverty is not a vice. This is the school of life. The one who passed it is "infected".

Habits imposed by poverty remain with a person forever. Even if he has improved his financial situation. They suck nerves and money like leeches.

This article will help you to eradicate beggarly thinking and thereby improve your financial affairs. After all, as you know, thought determines actions, and actions determine success.

Not so long ago I was poor. Until I came of age, I didn't have the opportunity to change anything. For the next 17 years, I didn't want to rebuild anything. I do not complain or grumble, because I chose my own path.

These are the words of John Cheese. For 35 years he lived in poverty, went with the flow, until one day by chance he got a good job.

It changed his life. The refrigerator is full, the bills are paid. But John was never able to get rid of the poor man's habits. The "infection" had penetrated too deeply into his brain.

Cheese, based on personal experience, described the habits of poor people.

1. Cheap food

People living on the minimum wage have two criteria when choosing food:

  • price (very low);
  • expiration date (as long as possible).

Quality? Taste? Manufacturer? Leave it to the gourmets shopping in the store of the same name.

Products are bought once a week or less. 90% of them are canned food. Fresh fruits and vegetables are too expensive. Meat? Maximum by-products.

But a person gets used to everything. So much so that when it becomes possible to buy normal products, you will have to re-learn their taste.

Fresh, not canned tomatoes and apples will seem wrong to you. Even if you train yourself to have breakfast with tartlets with danablu cheese, from time to time you will still miss a sandwich with "Friendship" and paper-soy boiled sausage.

2. "Extra" money

Large cash in a poor person's wallet is nonsense. Bonus, gift, kalym — if you have money, you need to spend it urgently. This is a reflex caused by the "infection of poverty".

It is impossible to postpone for a rainy day — it is always black. Poor thinking makes you live here and now.

A person reflexively goes to the store to the market and spends every penny without thinking about how he will pay the communal service next month.

The habit of immediately spending "extra" money is so strong that curious cases are constantly being exaggerated in the press: the mechanic Ivanov won a million and squandered it in a week.

The paradox: those in need of money do not save them, but the wealthy, on the contrary, know how to save.

When a person has a consistently high income, he has to learn how to manage funds rationally. He must understand: there is no "extra" money, you always need to have a financial buffer in case of unforeseen expenses (a car broke down, a seal fell out).

3. Gifts

If a person has no money, he is not up to gifts. The maximum that he can afford for all these birthdays and the eighth of March are souvenirs from Fix Price. Adults understand this and do not focus on it.

But the children...

Here are some new sneakers for you, but it's for your birthday.

Anyone who grew up in a low-income family is familiar with this phrase. And it is unlikely that the child will be upset that in six months he will be left without a gift, the main thing is new sneakers.

As a rule, children understand the financial problems of the family and, even if they really want to, do not whine: "Paaap, well, buy it." But adults still have a sense of guilt. Forever.

Therefore, when a family gets out of a financial hole, parents begin to flood their children with gifts. Not a single trip to the store without a new toy: "I couldn't afford to spoil the baby for so long."

The habit of compensating for forced savings with gifts also manifests itself when the child was born already in prosperity, and his parents grew up in poverty.

I didn't, so at least let the children have everything.

4. Accounting

The habit of constantly counting money is another manifestation of the "infection of poverty".

You know exactly what amount you have on your card and in your wallet (up to kopecks). You automatically add up the cost of the products in the basket in your mind, always check the receipt and know all the utility tariffs, as well as the formulas for calculating them.

This habit will remain even when the need to constantly count money disappears.

The fear of lack of funds will haunt those who grew up in poverty for a long time.

5. Basic necessities

If a person is barely making ends meet, he buys only what he needs at a given time. Only must have.

Example. Summer, sale of winter jackets. The price is almost for nothing. The model is cute. A person guided by poor thinking will not buy a jacket, even if he has "extra" money (see point 2). It is still necessary to live until winter — why a winter jacket in summer?

Anyone who has worn clothes for older brothers and sisters knows: they buy new jeans when the old ones are leaking, and not when they want to.

And this habit remains for a long time. "Why do I need new shoes? These can still be repaired!".
Again, a paradox: a person with the habits of a poor man does not enjoy shopping. There is money, but it's a pity to spend it. Especially at myself.

Being poor is bad because it takes up all your time.

artist, sculptor

Poverty shapes thinking. But you can rebuild it if you change your habits. Having got rid of the behavioral features described above, you may soon notice that you have become more successful and confident. You will develop immunity against the "infection of poverty".
