After several months of reflection, Mozilla has extended Firefox support on Windows 7 and 8. Browser users will receive updates until the third quarter of 2024. That is, about another year.

However, the timing may change both up and down. The company has not yet made a final decision.

We will not stop supporting Windows 7/Windows 8 until Firefox 115 ESR is released. I can't say exactly when we will stop supporting.

Previously, it was assumed that browser maintenance on outdated operating systems would stop in the first half of this year. The company recommended that users update Windows by this time.

As explained by other developers of the company, the decision to extend support is due to the popularity of Firefox among users of these systems. As of October 2022, Windows 7 accounts for 15.114% of active browser users, and Windows 8.1 — 2.848%.
