Today I would like to share with you my impressions of reading a book compiled by Jeffrey Young and William Simon called "Icon. Steve Jobs." When reading books about such famous personalities, it is quite difficult to perceive information objectively, because a fan of products with an apple on the case will always find positive in any act of his idol, while haters will want and will be able to pour mud on anyone who belongs to the enemy camp.

steve Jobs book

I do not want to ignite another senseless holivar and first of all I will talk about the purpose for which this book was taken, namely to learn more about the life of such an influential person.

It seems to me that it is very useful to know about the biography, life principles and all aspects of the activities of such famous people, because success often depends on exactly what and how a person does, and you can always take something from it for yourself. This book touches more deeply on the work activity of Jobs, and this may disappoint those who want to learn a lot from a person's personal life. Of course, the book describes many moments, starting with Steve's childhood and ending with his revolution in the music industry, but at the same time, a sufficient number of interesting facts that are present in Isaacson's biography were not described here.

The second major comment to the book will be, perhaps, a slightly chaotic narrative. In other words, sometimes there is a feeling that the authors had a hard limit on the number of pages, and they tried to fit all the thoughts and facts into this limit. Frequent transitions and jumps in time during the story sometimes caused difficulty and forced me to go back a couple of paragraphs to restore the chronology for myself.

Otherwise, the book fully met expectations. The more you know about a person, the less you like him. This sad rule works too often. It also applies to Jobs. Someone directly connects his success with his inherent negative character traits that helped him achieve his position, and there is some truth in this. However, some details concerning his attitude to colleagues and even the closest people cause only negative. If we return to exclusively professional activities, then the methods by which Jobs achieved his goals certainly deserve admiration.

ICON will surely be of interest to anyone who wants to know more about the giants, thanks to which the world of computers and information technology looks exactly like this now.
