The Nearby Share app has been released on Windows — for sharing files with Android

The Nearby Share utility ("Sharing with the environment") has finally become available for Windows, which allows you to quickly exchange files between your PC and an Android device. The feature was announced back in late 2022.

The app is currently available in beta, but it can already be downloaded from the official Android website. To work correctly, you need a computer with a 64-bit version of Windows 10 or Windows 11, as well as Bluetooth and Wi-Fi modules.

How "Sharing with the environment" works on Windows

After installing the application, you will need to log in to your Google account.

Next, you can configure the device detection mode and transfer files to your smartphone by simply dragging and dropping.

Here, for example, is an attempt to transfer an image from a PC desktop to a smartphone. The application found the Pixel 6, which was lying next to the laptop.

A notification will appear on the smartphone itself that there are devices with an active Nearby Share function nearby. The system will prompt you to turn on the visibility of the gadget.

And then you will need to accept the incoming file.

On the PC itself, the sending process will also be visible.

Everything works fast enough, including in the opposite direction — from a smartphone to a PC. However, judging by the reviews of other users, sometimes there may be problems with detecting devices nearby. Write in the comments whether the exchange works for you.
