In the Ru_mak community, switchers are often asked to find certain analogues of Windows programs. We tried to make a list of software that beginners should pay attention to.
- Replacing ICQ. Adium is probably one of the most popular IM clients for Mac. This is a free multiprotocol internet pager with open source. It supports working in ICQ, MSN, Jabber, Yahoo! and other networks. To work correctly with Cyrillic, you need to set the encoding CP1251 in the settings.
- Replacing BlogJet and Semagic. Ecto is probably one of the best blog clients in general. An exceptionally convenient program. My favorite feature is templates. Ecto paid application
- Browsers. For Mac, there are versions of almost all popular browsers, including Mozilla Firefox and Opera.
- Reading CHM. It is quite possible that you have an extensive library of books and manuals in CHM format. You can use the Chmox program to view them. It's free.
- FTP clients. To work with FTP, the best program is considered to be Transmit, but it is paid. There is a good analogue, distributed with open source, — CyberDuck
- Punto Switcher replacement. RuSwitcher is a program for automatically changing the layout. Currently, only two layouts are supported — U.S. and Russian. A new version is promised after the release of «Leopard ».
- Replacement for ReGet Deluxe. iGetter is usually recommended, but I can't tell you anything in detail about the pros and cons of the program, because I don't use this type of application
- Replacing StrongDC. There is no full-fledged replacement, it remains to be satisfied with Shakespeare.
- Replacement of «Lingvo». TranslateIt has proven itself well, and there is a free version.
In general, a lot of high-quality software (such as Skype, VLC, etc.) are cross-platform, so moving to a new OS is likely to be not only painless, but also extremely pleasant.
