What should I do if a pebble left a treacherous crack on the windshield, and there is no time to go to the service? What if the same unfortunate crack does not allow you to enjoy the beautiful morning landscape?
The algorithm is simple: cleaning the glass from dust and dirt, degreasing and filling the crack cavity with a fixing compound.
Rinse the glass thoroughly with water and detergent, then wipe with a clean cloth. It is important to remove all dust and moisture from the crack cavity: this will ensure good adhesion to the glue. After complete drying, it is necessary to degrease the surface. Use acetone, solvent or alcohol and synthetic fabric: it will not leave fibers and villi.
The simplest and best option. The glue can be applied directly from the tube or with a medical syringe. Fill the cavity slowly and gradually, avoiding air bubbles. Depending on the type of silicone, the repaired area will dry from 12 to 24 hours. After that, you can cover the place of the former crack with a thin layer of transparent varnish for reliability.
Such repairs are durable and are not afraid of water or detergents.
In a glass container, mix acetone and turpentine in a ratio of three to one. Crumble the foam into the solution in small pieces: the smaller, the faster the reaction will occur. Mix and wait for the complete dissolution of the foam. As a result, you will get a transparent viscous mass.
Such glue hardens quickly. Therefore, make it in small portions and use it immediately after cooking. Apply the resulting putty to the crack with a syringe or a thin brush.
If the crack on the glass is small or very thin, such protection is enough to prevent its growth. Apply a thin layer of varnish on both sides and wait for it to dry completely.
If you need to urgently stop a crack on the windshield, ordinary stationery tape will help, which is useful to always keep in the car just in case. It is enough to seal the place of damage on both sides. Such repairs are short-lived: the tape will come off after the first cool night due to condensation.
Sealing the windshield is not a panacea. The adhesive tape will protect from dust and dirt, as well as prevent the growth of cracks, but no more. Take more serious measures or contact the service station as soon as possible. And before that, try to drive more carefully, avoiding strong shaking, sudden braking and high speed to prevent further destruction of the car glass.
Remember: if there are certain damages on the windshield, it is impossible to pass a vehicle inspection.
