Surface cleaning

Once a month, a surface cleaning should be carried out. It will get rid of dust and crumbs (for those who like to chew something tasty in front of the monitor).

Flip and shake the keyboard a little. Some of the garbage will disappear already at this stage.

Take a small brush or paintbrush and brush away the dust and crumbs stuck between the keys.

To get rid of dust in hard-to-reach places, you can use a special USB vacuum cleaner for the keyboard or compressed air cans that are sold in digital and household appliances stores (cleaning products department). A regular hair dryer is also suitable, but only if the keys sit tight and there is no chance that the garbage will just get deeper.

You can only blow the keyboard with cold air.

To remove the grease from the keys, walk over them with a paper napkin or microfiber.

During preventive cleaning, in no case should you use wet rags: liquid should not get inside the keyboard. Maximum — wet wipes for the computer.

Deep cleaning

Every three months you need to disassemble and wash the keyboard. The same will have to be done if you spill something on it.

Method 1. Standard

This method is suitable for cleaning the built-in laptop keyboard.

Remove the keys. Usually the buttons are fastened with latches. They can be easily pulled off with a paper clip, a flat screwdriver or a knife, starting from the side edge of the key. This should be done very carefully, because thin plastic is easy to damage.

Pay special attention to long keys such as Shift, Enter and Space. Usually they are fastened with metal clips, so it is more difficult to remove and fix them again. If you are not sure of your abilities, it is better not to touch them. On some laptops, this feature is not provided at all.

Clean the attachment point. Walk along the joints with a flannel cloth, a damp cloth or a paper towel. You can blow the keyboard from the inside with a can of compressed air or a cold hair dryer.

Don't forget to take a picture of the keyboard before disassembling it.

Rinse the keys with ordinary water, soap solution or antiseptic. Alternative method: fold all the buttons into a clean sock, tie it, soak it in detergent, and then hold it under running water.

Dry the keys. If you don't want to wait for the moisture to evaporate, use a hair dryer.

First fix the big keys, then all the others. Here you will really need a photo that you took before cleaning.

Method 2. Complete disassembly

Take a photo of the keyboard, and then turn it over and unscrew the screws with a screwdriver. Open the device and place both halves on the table with the inside side up.

The lower part can be put aside, since it does not need to be cleaned.

Gently squeeze the keys out. Pay attention to the space bar and Shift, which can be additionally secured with metal pins. Do not remove the Enter key: it usually has a very complicated mount, so it will be very difficult to put it back.

Put all the keys in the sink and rinse under running water or leave for a while in a disinfectant solution. If the plastic is heavily soiled, walk over it with a soft toothbrush. Then dry the keys.

Rinse the top of the keyboard under running water, removing dirt with a toothbrush, especially in the corners and joints. Then let it dry.

Fix the keys in their original position. If a click is heard when pressed, everything is fine: the button is firmly fixed.

Connect the upper and lower parts of the keyboard, tighten the screws.

Connect the device to the computer and make sure that all the keys work.

Method 3. Cleaning after spilled liquid

The keyboard, on which water, hot coffee or any other drink has been spilled, immediately turn over and shake well. Wipe with a dry cloth.

Leave it overnight to let the keyboard dry. If some of the keys stick or don't work the next day, use the first or second cleaning method.
