The WowMouse Android app will turn the watch into a wireless mouse

Doublepoint startup has developed WowMouse turns your smartwatch into a gesture-based Bluetooth mouse / The Verge free Android app WowMouse. It allows you to use a watch on Wear OS 3 instead of a mouse to control devices on Windows, macOS, Linux, iPadOS and more. It also allows you to interact with a smart home and virtual reality (you will need a helmet like Quest Pro).

If you launch the app on your watch and connect it to your computer or tablet via Bluetooth, you can use finger gestures to perform simple actions. So, the movement of the index finger will change the position of the cursor on the screen, and the closing of the thumb and index finger will be read as a click. The clock itself can also be controlled by this method.

So far, Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 and later, as well as Pixel Watch are supported. It is not possible to develop an application for the Apple Watch because they do not support the Bluetooth Human Interface Devices (HID) standard, which some keyboards, mice, pointers and remote controls use to communicate. But the Apple Watch Series 9 has its own analogue — a double tap (although it allows you to control only the watch itself).

The developers do not plan to stop: they are going to negotiate with hardware manufacturers and software developers to support customized WowMouse gestures so that the whole smart home can be controlled with hand gestures. For example, to change the brightness of a smart light bulb, it is enough to point your hand at it and turn your wrist, adjusting the settings.

In theory, this sounds interesting, but the future of the app depends on whether manufacturers agree to customize gestures for their gadgets. Using WowMouse as a mouse sounds fun, but moving your hand in the air for a long time is physically harder than using a regular computer mouse.
