The design of Apple's upcoming 12.9-inch iPad Air model has been revealed in new CAD renderings shared by [Exclusive] 12.9-inch iPad Air design revealed in fresh CAD renders 91Mobiles portal. These images show the overall appearance and layout of the controls.
The most striking difference between this tablet and the previous ones, in addition to the huge display, will be the redesigned rear camera unit. It is made in the form of a tablet and now has a large thickness, which is why it bulges noticeably. Visually, it resembles the cameras in the iPhone X and iPhone XS.
From the front, the new iPad Air tablet is very similar to the current 12.9-inch iPad Pro, but with noticeably thicker bezels — just like the 10.9-inch iPad Air has thicker bezels around the display compared to the 11-inch iPad Pro.
It is expected that the device will be aimed at those who need a really large tablet, but without overpaying for Pro features like ProMotion or LiDAR scanner. This is similar to Apple's approach with the 13.6- and 15.3-inch MacBook Air.
